Operational Readiness Tests

The IMP team is now in training for the exciting events that will occur on July 4th. To prepare for the landing, the entire Pathfinder team practices during what are called "Operational Readiness Tests" at the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. During these tests, a model of the IMP, the rover, and the ASI/MET are set up in a "Mars Test Bed," that is, a room which is arranged to be somewhat like Mars. The scientists controlling the IMP and the other Pathfinder experiments are not allowed into the Mars Test Bed. They go through the actions that must be completed on July 4th, operating the IMP and rover models remotely, just as they will on the big day. There is only one more ORT before the real landing!

ORT 6 Report (19-23 May)
